NYC HIV/AIDS Event
Thursday, January 15, starting at 6:30 p.m. – NYC
The University of Rochester has been a leader in HIV/AIDS research for nearly 30 years. Most recently, we were designated by NIH as a Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). We now have two goals to complete in less than five years: to be the world’s first Center to test a new first-in-class therapy in people to prevent severe HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders; and to conduct the first test of a new treatment to save the lives of a half million persons with HIV/AIDS who currently die from meningitis caused by a deadly, but neglected, fungal pathogen.
For further information, please view our recently produced HIV/AIDS video: http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/giving/videos.aspx.
One of our most notable alumni, Dr. Michael Gottlieb ’73 MD, ’77 Res, (one of the founding directors of amfAR, the American Foundation for AIDS research; and the person to first recognize and describe AIDS as a unique illness) will be joining us to tell his story and to present on, “The World Without AIDS”. Also in attendance will be Dean & CEO Mark Taubman, Stephen Dewhurst, PhD, and Dr. Mike Keefer.
