Series VIII: Norris (Bud) Minard, 1989-2011
Scope and Contents
This series documents the life of Norris “Bud” Minard. It
includes letters to family, speeches detailing his life story and
the challenges he overcame as a gay man. It includes diaries
and memories written by Bud. It also includes details on his
assault in 1989. Other topics include domestic partnership,
events, the Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus, AIDS/HIV, and
LBGTQ inclusive churches.
Biographical Note
Norris “Bud” Minard was devoted to the Spiritus Christi
Church and Open Arms MCC. He loved and supported the
arts – he underwrote the Jason and DeMarco concerts. Minard
sang in choirs all his life. He was in the choir at Spiritus
Christi. He was also an activist for the LBGTQ community,
participating in events and donating to the Rochester Gay
Men’s Chorus, Shoulders To Stand On, and many others.

There are two folders titled “Assault, 1989.” The restricted
information is in an envelope labeled “RESTRICTED
ACCESS.” Access is restricted to this envelope because it
contains medical and legal records. HIPAA regulations require
medical records to be sealed for 50 years past the patient’s date
of death.
